Together Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it could look like typical physical horror, but within Together lies a profound contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim move from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the protagonists tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence begins influencing the pair. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a slow burn horror experience, blending bits of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but never too gross) body horror, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that arise in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the allegory avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu as of this moment.
