Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
